Kenya 2023 Workshop

This pilot project, held under the Voices of Faith banner, brought together women religious from across the African continent. It was a momentous occasion as it is from this event Kuibuka arose. During the workshop sisters learned about trauma and abuse, discussing the ways in which power is misused in the different contexts they live and serve in, and the effects trauma and abuse has on the individual, on the church and on our communities. Together we were challenged to consider the different actions we could take to make abuse more visible, and to support those who have experienced trauma so that they may flourish. Strong relationships and connections were made through these difficult conversations, but also through making fun memories together.

In the first few months following this workshop we estimate at least 100 further people, particularly nuns, also received some of the material from the workshop through these attendees.

Ghana 2024 Workshop

In early 2024 the first official Kuibuka workshop was held in Accra, with a focus on West African religious communities.

we gathered Superiors from different congregations to spend a week together. Also joining us were Sr. Lynet, Sr. Kathy & Sr. Caroline as co-facilitators. All three attended our Kenya workshop and were keen to join Kuibuka to continue the work of addressing abuse in religious life.
